Visiting Deng Enming's former residence and memorial in Libo: places, exhibits and planning

Start with the person: from a Libo childhood to the CPC's First National Congress

The Guizhou Provincial Party History Research Office records that Deng Enming was Shui and was born in 1901 in Banben hamlet, Shuipu Village, Yuping Town, Libo County. He later left to study in Shandong, helped establish early Party organisations and attended the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China. His life connects everyday Libo with revolutionary history in Shandong and elsewhere.

You do not need to memorise an entire chronology before visiting. Bring three questions instead: what family and local environment shaped his childhood, why did he leave to study, and how did later choices change his life? Following that thread through the exhibition can be more rewarding than remembering only a name and a few dates.

Separate the locations: town residence, memorial and Shuipu hometown

A historical museum register lists the town residence at 32 Xiangyang Middle Road, Yuping Subdistrict. A public introduction from Guizhou's Department of Culture and Tourism places the memorial in Libo town. Choose the full venue name when navigating, then confirm the current entrance and exhibition areas with management.

Party-history material, meanwhile, records the birthplace as Banben hamlet in Shuipu Village. When planning a town visit, do not confuse the town venues with the village location just because descriptions use 'former residence' or 'hometown'. If you also want Shuipu, separately confirm the specific visitor site, reception conditions and return transport.

Read the person and the period, and give exhibits some time

Guizhou's Department of Culture and Tourism describes the memorial's use of objects, photographs, paintings, multimedia and reconstructed scenes to present the history. Start with the life story, then choose one object or photograph and read its label closely, connecting it with a specific experience such as education or organisational work.

A former residence and a thematic exhibition can invite different kinds of looking. The former offers a focus on living conditions and upbringing; the latter helps organise the person's experiences and historical context. Which rooms, exhibits and galleries are actually open depends on the site that day. There is no need to hurry through just to photograph every corner.

Pair it with time in town, during confirmed opening hours

Our suggestion is to confirm the venue's opening first, then arrange a meal in town or a stroll around Libo Ancient Town. An indoor exhibition is not automatically an anytime rainy-day option. Establish that it is receiving visitors before replacing an outdoor plan. If leaving Libo the same day, allow separate time for luggage collection and travel to the station.

Families can choose a small theme such as leaving home to study or the story of one exhibit, then discuss the details each person remembers afterwards. Group interpretation, educational activities and individual visits may have different arrangements. Ask management in advance rather than inferring independent visitor rules from historical reports of group events.
