Can you visit Xiaoqikong in the rain? Checking opening and adjusting your trip
When rain is forecast, the key questions are where you can go that day, how to get there and back, and how existing bookings can change. Checking once does not replace another check on the day of travel.
Check these three things in order before setting out
Guizhou's Department of Culture and Tourism advises travellers in its 2026 peak-season guidance to follow destination weather, flood forecasts and warnings. You can check the weather for Xiaoqikong Town on China Weather, then consider the scenic area's official notice for that day.
The weather forecast, scenic-area opening and transport operation are three different matters. A sun or rain icon does not tell you whether a particular trail is open. An open scenic area also does not establish that your transport in and out is running as planned. Note both the publication date and the date the information applies to.

Adjust to the actual opening status

Prepare for rain and slow the pace together
If you have confirmed that a visit is possible, bring footwear appropriate for wet surfaces, rain protection and waterproof storage for your phone. Allow more time for walking, waiting and resting. Do not cross barriers for photographs or enter an area closed that day simply because an old travel account recommended it.
Keep activities requiring sustained time outdoors flexible. If you are tired, your clothing is soaked or the weather changes markedly, return first to a suitable place to stop and recheck connecting transport and departure plans.
Cliff Coffee at Kuwan Forest also involves forest trails and outdoor cliffside activity. It is not a default substitute if Xiaoqikong closes in the rain. Its activities may also be suspended or cancelled because of weather. If it is part of your plan, separately confirm that day's route and cancellation or amendment arrangements with the operator.
How to coordinate hotels and transfers already booked
Gather the date, usage time, provider and cancellation terms for each booking. A change at the scenic area does not mean every separate booking is automatically refundable. Contact each actual provider to confirm whether you can change the date or route, or cancel.
If asking a local contact for help, provide travel dates, accommodation location, departure time and items already booked, and explain what you want to keep and what can change. It is better to have a flexible time block than to rebuild the entire itinerary on the day.

No. The forecast is only one source of information. Check the day's scenic-area notice, open areas and on-site requirements as well.
How can I tell whether an online closure notice is relevant?
Check when it was published and which dates it applies to. An old notice cannot establish today's situation. Look for information from the scenic area or relevant authorities that is valid for the day.
Will rain automatically cancel my hotel and transfer bookings?
Do not assume automatic cancellation. Contact providers under the terms of each booking, confirm whether dates or arrangements can change or be cancelled, and keep a record of the agreement.
